How to Make a Living Room Feel More Grown-Up

A grown-up living room is not about spending more. It is about a few decisions made with a bit of confidence. Most rooms feel unfinished for the same reasons, and art is usually the quickest fix.

Hang art at the right height

The most common mistake is hanging things too high. Aim for the centre of the piece at roughly eye level, around 145cm from the floor, and let it relate to the furniture below rather than floating near the ceiling.

Choose a calmer palette

Rooms feel more adult when the colours agree with each other. Pick art that picks up one or two tones already in the room, a deep green, a warm clay, an inky blue, and the whole space reads as though it was planned.

Pick one piece with a bit of attitude

Our Martini Hour print does a lot of work on its own. A figure in a black dress with a martini, all clean lines and quiet confidence, it gives a room that considered, slightly cinematic feel. Hung above a console or a sideboard it sets the tone for everything around it.
